Description

This mural was produced by Culture Saves Lives, The Downtown Eastside Centre For The Arts Vancouver and VMF in response to the ongoing overdose crisis.

“I lost a friend last week to fentanyl. I'm still struggling to process this loss. I'm heartbroken because we lost a young man with a beautiful soul and a bright future. I'm also angry because I feel like the government isn't doing enough and, to them, he will just be another statistic. Despite his traumatic childhood and hard life, he was so caring and kind to everyone. He always wanted to make people smile and laugh, and he would give a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He had been in recovery for the last year and things are finally starting to look up. But last weekend I received the worst phone call of my life. We lost a friend, a brother, and a son. I have visited the overdose memorial mural on Hastings every day after work this week. It's now a place where I can go to remember him and to feel close to him.”
