Description

Although these works were cast in bronze in 1894 they weren’t dedicated until September 29, 1917. Architect Herbert A. Schmidt designed the pool (home to a community of turtles!) that surrounds the figures.

A Native American boy plays a flute towards two lions who look back at him as they listen to his song. The artist's son, Ramy (R. Ramsdale Cummings), posed for the figure of the boy, and later remembered how uncomfortable it was to pose naked in his father's chilly art studio.

Location

At the north-east end of the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park's Music Concourse
